Dave and Kortney Wilson were Canadian reality TV stars first
Kortney and Dave originally appeared in a show that had nothing to do with home renovation (outside of their own).
In 2009, the couple starred inMeet the Wilsons,their own version of theKardashians' orOsbournes' family reality show, on CMT Canada.The Windsor Stardescribed it as a, “Kind ofTruman Showabout workaday Nashville folk trying to juggle music careers with the demands of raising a family” (the Wilsons were originally musicians).
Kortney explained to the publication that she and Dave decided to do the show due to the difficulties they were facing trying to make it in the music industry.
“We needed to come up with an angle that would work for us and keep us together doing something we both enjoyed,” she noted of their approach.
A press release announcingMeet the Wilsonsadvised the show was an eight-part, half-hour series documenting, “this Canadian couple living in Nashville as they embark upon flipping their house, launching a music career, and adopting a third child.”
The Wilsons were relying on family and friends to help make their dreams of music stardom come true, which likely created the requisite drama.
According toHouse Beautiful,the show actually led to a spinoff,The Wilsons Flip Out,which followedDave and Kortneyas they juggled raising their children while flipping houses, signaling the stardom that would come.
