Bob Dole, the former United States Senator from Kansas, died at the age of 98,CNNreported.
Dole, the 1996 Republican presidential candidate, began treatment for advanced lung cancer in February 2021.
During his political career, Dole served in the Senate from 1969 to 1996.
Former Senator Dole’s family released astatementabout his passing.
“Senator Robert Joseph Dole died early this morning in his sleep.
He incurred the injury while trying to rescue his platoon’s radioman.
“Bob was an American statesman like few in our history.
A war hero and among the greatest of the Greatest Generation.
“I will miss my friend.
Biden’s statement continued, “Bob was a man to be admired by Americans.
He had an unerring sense of integrity and honor.
Each former president spoke of the senator’s military service to the United States and his political statesmanship.
